How the Inning Explorer Works
The matrix
Every cell is the share of innings a team posted a zero in that inning
number. Offense lens: the team scored 0 runs (good for a no-run bet when
they're batting). Pitching lens: the team allowed 0 runs. Darker green =
more zeros. Each cell shows the rate and its sample (half-innings played).
Splits
Season / Last 30d, Home / Away (the team's own site), and — on the
pitching lens — Starter vs Bullpen innings. Starter innings are the innings
the starting pitcher completed (from his innings-pitched line); the inning where
the bullpen took over, and everything later, counts as bullpen.
Raw vs Adjusted
Raw is the empirical rate. Adjusted shrinks each cell toward the
league average for that inning (empirical-Bayes, k = 20), which
tames small samples. The toolbar always shows which view you're on, and cells with
fewer than 15 half-innings carry a △ flag either way.
League row
The pinned LEAGUE row is the all-team average per inning — innings differ
structurally (the 1st always starts at the top of the order; middle innings vary),
so always compare a team's cell to its inning's league mark, not to other
innings.
