How First Inning Analysis Works

What this shows

For every team, a count of how its games' 1st innings went: Scored — games where the team put up at least 1 run in its own half; No Score — games where it didn't; Allowed — games where the opponent scored at least 1 in theirs; No Allow — games where the opponent didn't; Quiet % — how often neither side scored. Season counts carry their rate in parentheses. Season 2026, regular-season games with a completed 1st inning only. Note Scored + No Score (and Allowed + No Allow) always add up to GP.

Best-bets summary

The two cards above the table rank the top 5 teams for a "no run in the 1st" bet, one card per side: Won't Score — offenses that most often put up a zero in the 1st; Won't Allow — pitching staffs that most often hold the opponent scoreless in the 1st. Ranked by season rate with L10 as the tiebreaker; each entry shows season, L10, and L5 counts. A team that makes both lists is highlighted green with a Top 5 in both badge — its games lean quiet from both sides. Click any entry for the per-starter breakdown.

Below the two lists, the matchups box scans today's slate for games where a top-5 won't-score offense faces a top-5 won't-allow pitching staff — the strongest "no run in the 1st" spots of the day. A game can qualify in both directions when two quiet-leaning teams meet; each qualifying direction gets its own tag.

Season vs. Last 10 vs. Last 5

The same five columns repeat for three windows: the full season, each team's last 10 games, and its last 5 games — season-long tendency on the left, recent form to the right. L10/L5 cells are plain counts out of those 10 / 5 games. Only the Season block is color-tinted; the L10/L5 samples are too small to tint fairly.

Finding quiet teams

The table opens sorted by season Quiet % — teams whose games most often start 0–0 through one inning. Green tint always means "quiet-friendly": high Quiet%, high No Score / No Allow, or below-average Scored / Allowed. Red means run-prone first innings. Tints are relative to the league average of each column.

Per-starter breakdown

Click any row to see that team's numbers split by starting pitcher: in games he started, how often the team scored in the 1st, allowed a run in the 1st (that's the inning he pitched), and kept it quiet. Pitchers listed as probables on today's slate carry a Starting today badge. Mind the GS column — a 2-start sample is noise.

Sorting & data source

Click any column header to sort; click again to reverse. First-inning run counts come from the NRFI model's linescore feed (updated as games play); if that pipeline is paused this page's data pauses with it. Times and "today" are Central Time.
