How the Scoreless Innings Finder Works

What this shows

Pick a starting pitcher or a team and see, for each inning 1–9, how often that inning ended with no run — the raw count and the rate. Use the optional opponent filter to restrict to games against one team (e.g. Chris Sale vs PHI).

Pitcher mode

A starter is credited only with the innings he fully completed: a 6.2 IP start counts innings 1–6, and the partial 7th is excluded from the sample entirely — runs in it may belong to the bullpen. An inning is scoreless when the opponent scored zero runs in it (all runs count, earned or unearned — matching how books settle no-run-inning bets). Only final regular-season starts count.

Team mode

Two lenses: Runs allowed (the team's pitching — all pitchers, not just the starter) and Runs scored (how often the team's own offense was held scoreless in that inning — useful for the other side of a no-run bet). Innings are counted as played: a skipped bottom of the 9th isn't in the sample, a walk-off inning is.

Games quick view

The strip at the top lists the slate for the selected date (Central Time) with both probable starters — today by default. Use the arrows or the date picker to browse other days, past or upcoming; “Back to today” returns to the current slate.

Under each starter, the Best badge shows his single best no-run inning — the highest scoreless rate (with the raw count) among the innings inside his usual outing, i.e. innings 1 through his average IP rounded down. Innings beyond that are ignored so a one-off scoreless 8th can't outrank a consistently clean 2nd. Click a starter to load his innings profile against today's opponent already applied; click a team abbreviation for that team's runs-allowed profile vs today's opponent. Switch the opponent back to “Any opponent” for full-season numbers.

Data

Per-inning linescores from the NRI module's game log (final games only). Coverage begins with the 2026 season; new seasons appear automatically. Small samples (late innings for pitchers, opponent-filtered splits) are exactly that — small; the raw counts are always shown so you can judge for yourself.
